PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

What skills does your character bring to the situation?
John is quick-thinking and doesn’t question what he sees. All the creatures, magic plants, and bizarre happenings will be pretty middle-of-the-week for him and he’ll easily adapt to that part of this kidnapping scenario. He has a fair bit of knowledge about the multiverse and alternate/pocket realities so he’ll be good for a conversation if nothing else.

Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game?
I chose John because unlike Frank he will not embrace this setup at all and will rail against it at every opportunity. He’s brash but also “never picks a fight he can’t win” in his own words, so he will be very active in trying to uncover the secrets of this place and progressing the storyline. I also think he’s a great choice for the pod situation which is why I’m apping him now so he can join that plot since Frank will be completely hands-off from it. Frank with his experience in Reims is very much about furthering the setting and the people in it and joining together to survive. John will have the opposite reaction, telling everyone they’re living a false reality and looking for the way out the second he gets here.

How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any?
John will have no trouble surviving and adapting with his skillset being tailored towards the occult and generally wacky, but he will need a lot of urging to actively contribute to the settlement. Mostly because he doesn’t believe people should be settling at all. He will spend a lot of his time gathering magic supplies and trying to scry for the way out as well as trying to get anyone who seems even vaguely psychically inclined to help him out. Though he has a low opinion of himself in general (that he covers with arrogance and putting things like “master of the dark arts” on his business cards,) Constantine is known for roping people into his missions and using the skills of those around him to further his goals.

How will your character react to...

Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable?
John has very few people he allows himself to be close to or work with in any capacity. He will believe they’re better off without him in some ways, but given the “Rising Darkness” he’s fighting against on his homeworld he will want to get back and aid the fight. He believes without him the world will be consumed by darkness and evil. And since his soul is already damned to Hell, he doesn’t feel there’s very much more he can lose. With that said, losing his magic will be devastating to him. He relies on it to get himself and his friends out of jams, both mystical and otherwise. A good example of this is when he tries to sober his buddy up enough to drive him home and accidently makes him immortal. Whoops.

Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them?
He’s also used to this, but without his usual method of fighting it (magic) he will be very disoriented indeed. John is someone who never gives up so I don’t foresee it keeping him down, but he will start getting creative fast in ways to get the Observers to reveal themselves or at least an exit. He will also be quick to manipulate others to bring them to task if need be. After making Chas immortal, he convinced him he had to then stay on to help John fight evil because his skills would be wasted otherwise. I see him trying to bend others here to his will when it becomes apparent not many others are actively seeking a way out.

Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before?
Broken record time: it happens to him in canon so it won’t throw him off overly. At first he might be stuck remembering his time in the mental institution, but he knows he isn’t crazy. It will be hard to convince him that he is. Nearly impossible, really. He never looks for the easy explanation or accepts cold hard facts because in his life and world it’s almost always underlying causes and dark mystics at work. He will not accept anything on face value here and will be obstinately against listening to those who do.

POWERS & SPECIAL ABILITIES

All of his powers can fit under the neat heading of “magic,” but it’s a DC universe so you already know it makes no sense whatsoever.

That said his main skills are exorcism, demonology and wielding the dark arts. He has been known to utilize glamour/illusion spells, telekinesis, necromancy, etc. in a casual way and all with nothing but incantations. Most of his more involved spells are part of a greater ritual and those need drawn circles and magic ingredients as well as a clear head and motive to perform them. There aren’t many demon possessions or dead bodies around for his main powerset, and the rest of his skills are knowledge-based, but I think a simple glamour option would be something to add to the powers for purchase! He usually uses it to cloak a person or a space into something familiar but people could make themselves or their surroundings look however they wanted which could be fun to play with. Glamour is of course, just an illusion, and it wouldn't give anyone the ability to alter anything in reality, only in perception.
