[There had been a moment he was positive no one was gonna make it out. Obviously John had been high on that list. While John is vulnerable, Steve is still relieved to be seeing him at all. He offers a warm smile and shrugs.] I did owe you a few.
[Steve glances at that hand, but still chuckles at the challenge all the same. ] No, no. I still owe you for a couple more times. I won't try to get off that easy.
[ john's gaze jumps to steve's lips while he speaks, liking the way he shapes the words 'i owe you' especially. ]
It's good to know some men still have integrity. [ he's definitely not one of them, the source of his slanted smile as his eyes slowly track back up to steve's too-blue eyes. ] Lucky for you, there might be something you can do for me now to... get even.
[ yeah he's really not trying to be subtle anymore. in fact, he thinks steve might need a lot more transparency than he initially thought. his grip turns soft and slowly trails down to the edge of his sleeve, almost tickling against bare flesh. ]

[Steve is an idiot when it comes to these things. It makes sense. He'd been fairly unpopular with everyone for most of his life as sick, disabled kid who fought everyone and everything. He doesn't know the signs... At least not without his uniform on. Right now he's only Steve. It really does take John staring into his eyes, fingers fluttering over his flesh to drive home that just maybe the other man was getting at something.
He swallows nervously as he mouths the word 'oh' and looks down at John's hand on his arm.] I'm not... unwilling. If I'm understanding you right.
[ he isn't sure if it's a good nervous or not so he treads carefully, his hand skating back up the inside of steve's arm, pushing his shirt gently as he goes. ]
Yes, well, that's... encouraging. [ his throat goes dry despite himself and he takes a tight step in, trying not to give into the wave of lightheadedness as that move highlights how much bigger steve is. ] Have you ever been with a man before, Captain?
[ his eyes flash at the question, suspecting he knows the answer. despite his reputation, he can take things slow, when the moment calls for it. ]
[His lips quirk up like he's having a joke at his own expense. That's more or less what's happening here. Steve is all too aware of how his body gives people the wrong impression. How can a man that looks like him be so inexperienced? Steve figures it's better to own than pretend otherwise.
Steve forces a smile, meeting John's gaze even if he's somewhat embarrassed. He's still human. He can't help worrying what a guy he likes might think of him.] I haven't been with anyone before. People back in my day weren't into a guy constantly on death's doorstep.
[ steve has always been somewhat candid since their first meeting, but he still didn't expect such an honest answer. something in john's dark gaze softens, a gentle smile tugging up his lips as he remembers the glimpse of steve's lady love from his vision. even he realizes it would probably be tacky to bring up peggy now, but he's not trying to make steve fall for him. he has more than enough baggage of his own where that's concerned. ]
Yes well, there's no accounting for poor taste, now is there? [ his fingers drag back down steve's arm, feeling goosepimples arise in his wake as his hand alights on his wrist intimately, pressing down on his pulse-point as he forges deep eye contact. ] Here's my offer... you do a bit of soul-searching, yeah? Then if you decide what you want later, come by my flat. If you want.
[ john tips his head to the side as he slowly lets go and straightens back up just a little in his permanent hunch. his gaze draws up to the temple as he holds his breath for just a second. this has got to be a mistake. after trying to go on the rebound with gary and all the other bullshit that came after, but showing steve the ropes would still take his mind off desmond for long enough that it might be worth it. ]

[As if any part of that was easy.]
